6-Month Contract with a local authority Summary The Data Protection Officer (DPO) serves as the Council’s independent authority on data privacy, ensuring compliance with UK GDPR, the Data Protection Act 2018, and all applicable data protection legislation. This role provides strategic leadership on data protection matters, manages high-risk incidents, advises on privacy impacts, and embeds a strong culture of data ethics across the organisation as Hackney continues to expand its digital services. Responsibilities Monitor organisation-wide compliance with data protection legislation, including UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018. Lead internal data protection activities such as staff training, awareness programmes, and privacy culture improvement. Act as the primary point of contact for the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO). Serve as the lead contact for individuals exercising their data protection rights. Essential Experience Proven experience working as a Data Protection Officer within a Local Government environment. Experience advising on complex, high-risk data protection issues and major digital or organisational transformation projects. Essential Qualifications Deep understanding of UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, and wider national/EU data protection frameworks. Strong knowledge of data governance, privacy-by-design principles, and best-practice information governance methodologies. Additional Information We work on a bi-weekly payment schedule.
