The Role
We’re seeking a dedicated and well‑organised Placement Support Worker to join the Placement Team in Barnsley. This role supports the local authority in identifying and maintaining suitable placements for children and young people coming into care. You’ll help ensure placements meet assessed needs, maintain accurate systems and data, and work closely with independent fostering and residential providers to ensure high standards of service delivery and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
* Find and match suitable placements for children and young people entering care.
* Maintain and update spreadsheets and databases with accurate placement and provider information.
* Support the completion, compliance, and monitoring of placement contracts with independent fostering and residential providers.
* Process provider payments accurately and promptly.
* Support the accreditation of providers within the White Rose Regional Consortium.
* Conduct satisfaction surveys to inform future placement planning.
* Establish and maintain links with independent service providers across the Borough.
* Attend meetings and follow through on placement‑related actions.
* Provide data and information for internal and external reports.
* Support placement panels and complete any identified actions.
What the Client is Looking For
* Experience in brokerage or placement matching within children’s services.
* Strong administrative background, ideally within children’s or social care settings.
* Excellent IT skills, particularly with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access).
* Confident managing data and financial/payment systems.
* Exceptional organisational and communication skills.
* Ability to prioritise workloads, meet deadlines, and work effectively both independently and within a team.
* Flexibility to adapt to service needs and commitment to professional development.
* Enhanced DBS (EDBS) required.
Qualifications
* BTEC (Higher) in Administration or Business and Finance (or equivalent),
* Extensive relevant experience supporting children’s services or working directly with children and families (e.g., family support, youth work).
