East Cheshire NHS Trust has an exciting job opportunity in the Estates & Facilities team for a Multi skilled Maintenance Technician.

The successful candidate will have or be working towards an electrical or mechanical trade qualification and will have a maintenance background. The post holder will be expected to undertake multi-skilled tasks which are both complex and/or non-routine, involving PPM's and fault finding on a wide range of engineering plant and equipment, including electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, building management system, automated control systems, standby electrical generators, medical gas, water, HVAC plant.

The role is predominately based at Macclesfield Hospital but occasional travel to other sites in the community may be required as part of the day‑to‑day duties.

We welcome applications from Graduate visa holders; it is important to note that you must have a minimum of 6 months before this expires at the start of your employment for training and operational reasons.


Main duties of the job

Carry out scheduled Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and general day-to-day work on building, mechanical and electrical installations, plant and equipment as required.

Carry out testing on all types of building mechanical and electrical plant and equipment following repair or installation in compliance with all relevant "Hospital Technical Memorandums", Health and Safety regulations and building regulations etc.

Perform all of the duties of the post as required without direct supervision. Actively participate in the operation of the Works Management System scheme in a timely manner including completion of all paperwork required by the scheme; including completion of all works order job dockets & timesheets.

To work overtime as and when required to carry out emergency repairs and out of hours planned maintenance as required by service requirements and management.

To cooperate in partnership with the Trust to provide flexible out of hours working and when requested by the trust undertake on‑call duties as part of the on‑call team to ensure that emergency repairs out of normal hours are attended to.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Must have a recognised Apprenticeship to City & Guilds or NVQ Level 3 Standard.
* It is expected that over a period of a number of years beyond the individual standard qualifications, training or advanced knowledge in specific areas such as BMS, Legionella control, Fire Alarms, 18th Edition Wiring Regulations BS7671 (2382), Inspection and Testing (2395), Automatic Door Systems and Access control, Air Conditioning and Ventilation, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Emergency Lift Release (BS7255) or Academic knowledge in building services that equates to BTEC/ONC standard.
* A management / Supervisory Qualification.
* ISOH (Institution of Occupational Safety and Health) working safely.


Knowledge & Skills

* Must be committed to participate in continued professional development training.
* Knowledge of NHS policies, procedures & protocols.
* In‑depth understanding of health & safety legislation.
* If required be a part of the on‑call team.
* An ability to work at heights.
* An ability to work in confined spaces etc.
* An ability to operate complex & specialist machinery.
* An ability to work in hazardous conditions & areas.
* Must possess an ability to carry out multiple tasks.
* Must possess good IT skills.
* Must possess good communication skills.
* Must possess good manual dexterity.
* Must have a flexible approach to working hours.
* Must be self‑motivated.
* Must carry a mobile communications device for immediate response to emergencies etc.
* Good degree of craft techniques / ability to perform tasks in a controlled environment.
* Be ability to prioritise own workload.
* Skilled in carrying out other minor repairs.
* Some basic IT skills.
* Ability to meet travel requirements.
* Be able to fault‑find on plant & systems.


Experience

* Must have significant experience in a maintenance type environment.
* Formal qualifications or demonstrable experience & knowledge in an alternative discipline.
* Supervisory experience.
* Experience of working in an Acute hospital environment.
