Lead Ranger / Prif Geidwad - Narbeth Summary INTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY We’re looking for a Lead Ranger in North Pembrokeshire to join our Countryside team on an 18 month fixed term contract, working 15 hours per week as part of a job share with the existing Lead Ranger. This is a senior, non line management role that provides shared leadership and professional oversight for countryside management across the North Pembrokeshire. You’ll work closely with Ranger colleagues, other teams and partners to help shape and deliver the National Trust’s ambitions for land, nature and access. The role will be fluid and adaptable, with responsibilities shared flexibly between the two Lead Rangers. This will require close, collaborative working to ensure continuity and effective delivery. What it's like to work here National Trust Cymru looks after some of the most naturally spectacular and culturally rich landscapes in the UK and the coast and countryside of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthen Bay is one of the best. We look after 70 miles of coastline, and manage over 4,500ha of land, from the large estates of Stackpole and Colby in the south, to the windswept farms, commons, and cliffs in the north. We have a team of 13 rangers and gardeners who look after these wonderful landscapes, working closely with our visitor welcome colleagues to ensure everyone can enjoy the very best that Wales has to offer in this beautiful corner of the country. What you'll be doing You’ll help plan, coordinate and deliver programmes of countryside work that conserve and enhance the landscapes and habitats we look after, while supporting safe, inclusive and welcoming access for visitors. Working in close partnership with the existing Lead Ranger, you’ll provide shared leadership and professional oversight for ranger operations. You’ll contribute to decision making, work prioritisation and responses to reactive issues, and support the smooth day to day running of countryside activities. As part of a small and collaborative team, you’ll be adaptable and able to step in where your skills and experience are most valuable. You’ll build positive working relationships with tenants, graziers, partners and contractors, supporting collaborative land management and project delivery. You’ll play a key role in health and safety, compliance and operational risk management, helping ensure inspections, records and systems are maintained. You’ll also contribute to project development, contractor oversight and budget monitoring, and conversations that help shape nature focused plans across our sites. You’ll act as an ambassador for our countryside work, engaging constructively with a wide range of people and organisations and helping promote the National Trust’s work to existing and new audiences. Who we're looking for an experienced countryside professional, comfortable operating in a senior or lead role without direct line management confident providing professional leadership, guidance and support within an operational team experienced in land management, nature conservation and access for people enthusiastic, knowledgeable and collaborative, with a positive approach to working with colleagues, volunteers and partners familiar with countryside health and safety and compliance requirements organised and self motivated, able to manage a flexible workload with competing priorities comfortable supporting the management of budgets, contracts and operational resources The package The National Trust has the motto ‘For everyone, for ever’ at its heart.
