Role Responsibility
Reporting directly to the General Manager – RMX Midlands, the role of Technical Manager (HS2 Readymix) will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the quality assurance function within HS2. Managing a team of 6, you will engage with the HS2 Project Manager and oversee all aspects of product quality and resource efficiency, actively promote Quality Management to ensure that all products meet the required standards and provide a comprehensive and proactive technical support to management and customers in the region.
As Technical Manager (HS2 Readymix) you will also be responsible for:
1. Representing the Company to customers on technical and quality issues
2. Proactively driving product development and the optimise programme
3. Ensuring a zero-harm culture within the technical department
4. Supporting HS2 management team in developing Technical and Quality excellence
5. Effectively ensuring material quality is consistent across the Midlands region and meeting the high level of compliance expected with all Quality Assurance requirements
6. Provision of full and effective testing processes in accordance with standards and accreditation
7. Managing and directing your technical teams including the supervision, coaching and development and succession planning of employees
8. Establishing and maintaining efficient designs for all finished products with consideration of quality, production and economic factors
9. Maintenance of trial mixes, BOMs, SAP material files
10. Effective handling of customer complaints through investigation of cause and appropriate reporting
11. Supporting and leading relevant internal and external audits
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate for the role of Technical Manager (HS2 Readymix) will have a relevant degree or Diploma in Concrete Studies, City and Guilds Concrete Technology and Construction (similar) or equivalent working experience. You will also possess a strong working knowledge of aggregates and Ready Mix (RMX) concrete products and their applications as well as good appreciation of EN standards and specifications.
Suitable candidates for the role of Technical Manager (HS2 Readymix) will also have:
12. Proven knowledge of added value products and production process requirements and technical operations for concrete
13. Proven understanding of both Technical and Commercial drivers for the Readymix markets, with demonstrable ability to translate these drivers into projects, initiatives and actions that bring bottom line benefits and optimise processes
14. A sound understanding of delivery on financial measures
15. Proven people management skills and the ability to effectively manage conflict
16. Confidence to represent Tarmac and present at meetings
17. Proven ability to influence and persuade others
18. Appetite for problem solving and able to demonstrate a solution focussed approach
19. Excellent planning & organising skills
20. Resilience
21. Working knowledge of analytical techniques used i.e. CUSUM, OCL
22. Excellent understanding of quality assurance systems and procedures
23. Strong customer knowledge and awareness
