Specialty Doctor - Emergency Medicine

The closing date is 30 June 2025

We are looking to appoint Specialty Doctors in Emergency Medicine at University Hospitals Dorset to work at the Royal Bournemouth Hospital site, near the beaches of Bournemouth and Poole.

The Emergency Medicine team at UHD has extensive experience supporting doctors through the CESR programme, with many now working as substantive consultants. The programme includes tailored professional development in Critical Care, Anaesthetics, Acute Medicine, and Paediatrics, with mentor support from a CESR-qualified consultant. Participation is optional for successful candidates.

Following the merger of Poole, Bournemouth, and Christchurch Hospitals into UHD, there are currently Emergency Departments at both Poole and Bournemouth. RBH handles PCI and stroke thrombolysis, while Poole is the Major Trauma Unit and provides inpatient paediatric services. These services will transition to Bournemouth by the end of 2024, with the ED moving into a new department in the Beach Building, alongside Paediatrics, Critical Care, and Maternity.

Main duties of the job

* Provide high-quality emergency care, competent in managing common emergency medical conditions and injuries.
* Conduct scheduled shifts for routine assessment and treatment of ED patients.
* Participate in the middle tier rota, covering 24/7 shifts.
* Engage in professional development and audit activities, ensuring clinical governance standards are met.
* Support the existing Emergency Department team at RBH, assisting in delivering 24-hour emergency care to Dorset’s population.

The successful candidate will be supported by a team of 15 Consultants. We reserve the right to close this vacancy early if a high volume of applications is received.

Our values define #TeamUHD, guiding our interactions with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
