Salary starting from £32,240 per annum + excellent benefits. Permanent role with paid standby rota (typically 1:6 rotation).
Job Overview
The Craftsperson (Jointing) will construct, maintain and repair the electrical distribution network. This critical role supports ScottishPower’s Net Zero ambition across >100,000 km of network and 30,000 substations, benefiting >3.5m homes and businesses in Scotland, England and Wales.
Day‑to‑day Responsibilities
* Conduct all site works safely and efficiently, following company policy and safety rules.
* Act as the nominated person in charge of safety during works.
* Perform cablehead changes, cablehead and substation fuse replacements, fault location, generator deployment/connection, jointing work and issue/receiption of safety documents.
* Occasionally assist other trade groups within the company.
* Plan and carry out work safely, adhering to health and safety procedures, working independently or as part of a team with a confident and enthusiastic attitude.
* Demonstrate attention to detail and strong oral and written communication skills while delivering outstanding customer service and essential 24/7/365 services to local communities.
What You’ll Bring
* Demonstrable experience and understanding of jointing, testing and fault finding.
* Preferable, but not essential, experience working within a utilities business.
* Sound knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation.
* Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with colleagues and customers as an on‑site representative of ScottishPower.
Qualifications
* City and Guilds or NVQ equivalent, or equivalent experience (minimum).
Minimum Criteria
* Currently or historically employed as an electrical cable jointer at LV, HV or EHV (minimum).
* Valid driving licence (minimum).
