P+S Personnel are pleased to be working on behalf of our clients who are currently recruiting an Onsite Engineering Estimator to join their team based in the Northwest on a full-time, permanent basis.
This role includes travel to multiple sites.
Role Summary:
The Onsite Engineering Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate estimates for projects by assessing client’s tender enquiries, gathering information, and analysing key metrics to support profitable business decisions.
Main Responsibilities:
* Manage enquiries and ITTs from start to finish within agreed deadlines.
* Review and assess all tender information received and raise RFIs where required.
* Conduct site visits to plan access and logistics for accurate estimation.
* Submit documentation for ITT return.
* Liaise with operations teams to understand outputs and delivery methods.
* Compile detailed estimates from first principles, following standard company rates.
* Estimate site welfare, preliminaries, and time-related items.
* Engage with subcontractors and suppliers.
* Coordinate with the Bid department for submission preparation.
* Manage all tender queries and clarifications.
* Attend pre-contract meetings with sales and bid teams.
* Participate in Decide to Bid meetings with department heads and BDMs.
* Perform detailed commercial reviews with senior management prior to submission.
* Take accountability for all onsite engineering estimates.
* Organize and attend client post-tender meetings as appropriate.
* Conduct commercial risk analysis and estimate accordingly.
* Chair internal handover meetings with the delivery team.
* Estimate project variations and PMIs.
* Mentor and train junior staff members.
Qualifications and Experience:
* CSCS & PTS (AC & DC).
* Valid driving license.
* Experience in fabrication, welding, onsite steelwork, and civils installation.
* Knowledge of tendering and procurement processes.
* At least 5 years’ experience in onsite engineering projects.
* Rail and highway project experience.
* Strong relationship-building skills.
* Experience in sales, bids, and proposals.
* PQQ/EOI and ITT experience.
* Commercial and contractual awareness, including NEC3.
* Ability to read and understand technical drawings and specifications.
* Skills in programming and planning.
* Experience with temporary works design and installation.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
* Team player who can also work independently.
* Client-focused attitude.
* Market awareness and innovation.
* Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
* Approachable and open-minded.
* HNC or Degree in Engineering or Business Management, or equivalent, with significant relevant experience (Desirable).
* Proven experience in cost estimation from first principles (Desirable).
* Risk awareness in estimating (Desirable).
* Experience leading multi-disciplinary tenders (Desirable).
* Experience working within frameworks (Desirable).
* Business development skills and techniques (Desirable).
