Overall Purpose of Role
Menzies HR Services provide outsourced HR services to small and medium sized UK clients, including UK subsidiaries of more substantial overseas businesses.
We are proud of the close relationship we have with our clients, most of whom also rely on Menzies LLP for a range of other accounting and advisory services.
Menzies LLP is a top business and advisory firm, we have 50 partners and over members of staff based across offices in Woking, Fareham, Leatherhead, Farnborough, Heathrow, Central London, Stevenage and Cardiff.
HR Services is a small team but work closely with colleagues in payroll, employee benefits, employment taxes and other internal teams to provide comprehensive and bespoke solutions for our clients. In the main our work covers:
· Employment advisory (ER) and case management
· HR systems and admin
· Maintaining compliance across the employee lifecycle, particularly through contracts and handbooks.
· Recruitment
· Reward, incentives and benchmarking
· Management and leadership development and coaching
· Projects across restructuring, TUPE, change management, performance development, DEI, ESG.
· Business development including networking, developing prospects, content writing and event hosting / management.
Much of our work is with retained clients who rely on our support on a daily basis, but we also manage ad hoc advisory and strategic projects and are always taking on board new clients and new work. It is therefore a varied and exciting area of work and we are a growing part of the company.
Key Responsibilities
This is a senior position that will have 3 main areas of focus:
· Provide general and complex ER advice and manage related projects including DEI.
· Manage a client portfolio and make a significant contribution to business development and marketing activity.
· Provide technical and developmental coaching to the team.
This will include:
· Guiding clients through issues such as disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance, redundancy and TUPE with a focus on supportive advice and pragmatic solutions that help the client make risk-based decisions.
· Reviewing contract and handbook documentation to maintain their compliance and ensure that necessary policies are in place to meet relevant legislation and client needs.
· Interpreting and amending employment contracts and ensuring clients are kept informed of best practice and any legal changes that could impact their business type or HR strategy.
· Ensuring our internal systems, procedures and documents keep pace with changing legislation and styles / modes of presentation.
· Taking on external or internal projects, e.g.:
o Investigations.
o Developing client DEI strategies.
o Training line managers.
o Other projects that make use of particular skill sets.
o Supporting internal initiatives such as sector specific or wider Employment Solutions activity.
· Providing leadership and support to our HR back-office team as both a technical referral point and general coach.
· Assist when necessary with specific administration processes for clients such as new starters, leavers, contract and job-change admin when cover or support is required.
· Build relationships and visibility internally with Partners and Managers who are the source of most HR Service referrals.
· Create and share engaging content in areas of expertise to use in marketing and BD activity, including through own use of social media.
· Engage in networking activity, develop and maintain a pipeline of prospects leading to new client acquisition.
· and or HR and growing our client base, you will help to raise our profile as an HR partner to our clients and potential new customers through informative external communication, utilising channels such as social media.
Job Profile
Required Qualifications
· MCIPD or FCIPD
Required Skills & Knowledge
· An excellent, up to date working knowledge of employment law, entitlements and protections.
· Consulting skills – using questioning to identify needs, devising and articulating pragmatic solutions, effectively dealing with objections.
· Communication - confident and articulate both in person and in writing, able to adapt their approach depending on the client. Ideally a skilled presenter / trainer.
· Client Relations – excellent rapport building, engendering confidence, becoming instrumental in the client’s decision process and a trusted advisor.
· Service Orientation – a constructive and helpful attitude; an enthusiasm to identify / understand client needs and deliver workable solutions, giving options to help the client make their own risk-based decisions.
Required Competencies
· Organisation skills – the ability to prioritise and track a high number of tasks to be done across numerous client groups, set reasonable expectations, deliver against commitments made and keep clients and colleagues updated on progress as necessary. A fast-paced, practical, common-sense approach is vital
· Process Orientation – a strong preference for organised systems and procedures and a strong track record of implementing efficient and streamlined processes
Required Work Experience
· A very experienced HR Advisor who has handled complex issues through to resolution, settlement, or pre-claim. No tribunal experience is necessary - we do not act for clients post claim – but you have probably experienced ET cases.
· A generalist background that enables you to turn your hand to a range of HR matters e.g. recruitment, performance management, learning & development, reward & recognition.
· We are particularly interested in experience devising and/or implementing DEI strategies.
· Experience in a range of industries / sectors and dealing with senior leaders / business owners / directors.
· HR systems & Admin – able to use HR technology and have a good grounding in HR admin processes.
· Experience in an outsourced HR / consultancy / professional services environment would be preferred but not essential, ideally an experienced consultant for privately owned businesses. You may have run your own consultancy or division.
· Similarly, experience in business development / client acquisition / content development would be advantageous.
Travel Requirements
· Regular attendances across most Menzies locations will be required.
· Frequent visits to clients, prospects and events across London and the Southeast will also be necessary.
