The post holder will provide leadership in the Resuscitation area undertaking the role of the Resuscitation room lead. This will provide specialist emergency nursing advice to co-workers and juniors working throughout the department. Education, development and training will be a key part of the post holders responsibilities. The role is to work primarily, but not exclusively, in the resuscitation area which consists of 5 adult and 1 paediatric bays. Worthing Hospital is a medium sized District General Hospital which is part of the UHSussex NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest acute trusts in the UK.

Main duties of the job

To demonstrate specialist emergency care and major trauma expertise underpinned by theory and incorporating evidence-based practice, evidenced by completion of appropriate competencies

To provide leadership for the multidisciplinary team in the resuscitation area to ensure a high standard of patient care, providing support and supervision as required.

To challenge practice so that the best and most appropriate treatment is given to the patient; maintaining and monitoring high standards of care, recognising and responding proactively to patients’ changing clinical needs.

To work closely with the Matron, Service Manager and Clinical Director so that the vision and goals of the Resuscitation room and whole emergency department are translated into practice.

Knows his/her responsibilities within policies pertaining to Major Incident, CBRNE and other emergency bleep responses. Ensures that all other staff knows their duties within these policies.

To be responsible for the efficient management, storage and use of all stock including equipment in conjunction with the Matron and Service Manager.

Continue to develop own advanced clinical expertise and skills within the Scope of Practice framework and as agreed by the Matron.

Be actively involved in initiating, planning and implementing new policies, procures and guidelines ensuring that appropriate consultation takes place and approval is sought.

Experience & Qualifications

Essential criteria

1. NMC Level 1 Registered Nurse or HCPC
2. Paramedic qualification
3. Study at master’s level 7 in emergency care/trauma related topic
4. Significant experience in acute/ITU emergency setting
5. Significant Band 6 nursing/managerial experience
6. ALS
7. EPLS
8. Trauma Level 1 Child/Adult protection certificate
9. Holds registered mentor or teaching/education qualification
10. Proven and current experience in the Emergency Medicine Setting

Desirable criteria

11. Evidence of Leadership Experience/qualification
12. Evidence of ongoing/recent CPD
13. Evidence of leading change project
14. Working towards completing Masters in related topic
15. Completed advanced physical assessment level 7 adult and/or paediatrics
16. Debrief Training Retrieval study days
17. Leadership qualification
18. TNCC/ATNC and instructor status
19. MIMMS- Major Incident Medical Management
