Production Assistant

Hours: Fixed hours 8 am to 4.30 pm Monday through to Thursday and 7 am to 1.00 pm Friday (current manufacturing hours)
Based in Astley, Manchester, the company is a manufacturer and worldwide exporter of chemicals, specifically surfactants used in various specialised sectors.
The Role
This role is supportive to the Production Office Team, ensuring the production schedule is maintained and all required operations are carried out on time. This requires working well as part of a small office team as well as liaising with the larger manufacturing team.
Skills and Qualifications
* IT proficiency : role is predominantly office based so competence with computers is a must including prior experience with Microsoft Excel and Outlook. Further training will be provided for the bespoke software used daily.
* Organisational skills : must be self:motivated and meticulous. This area of the company can be fast paced requiring a level of concentration to be maintained throughout the day. The role will require a mix of computer and paper:based record keeping, as well as generation of paperwork and labelling for use on the manufacturing plant.
* Communication : candidate must be willing to liaise with customers via both phone and email, in a polite manner, when required as well as enter discussions with onsite staff to ensure smooth running of operations. Good English skills, both spoken and written, are required.
* Good recall : the role will require the candidate to learn a lot of information, so good retention is a must, and they will be required to distinguish between different but similar sounding products.
* Good maths skills are a must, as the candidate will be required to carry out some arithmetic to convert between customer orders and production size manufacture as well as estimation of volume based on weight for various finished products.
* Prior experience in a manufacturing setting would be beneficial, ideally with some knowledge of industrial Health and Safety, Quality and Environmental practices. Also, prior experience with standard operating procedures and some knowledge of plant equipment would be advantageous.
* Adaptive with good problem solving abilities : the role will be a mixture of standard work and reactive work. The ideal candidate must be prepared to provide cover for other office roles when required.
