About the Role
Personal assistant needed to support a Deaf boy in gaining life skills and improving confidence. The role requires 10 hours per week, covering after‑school and weekend times, with flexibility to be discussed during the interview. The assistant must be able to use and understand British Sign Language Level 3 to communicate with the individual and his mother.
Responsibilities
* Support the individual to look after and care for his pets.
* Assist with travel to and from school, work, college and social activities.
* Encourage participation in sporting and leisure activities.
* Promote socialisation and the development of friendships.
* Develop a trusting one‑to‑one working relationship.
* Report any accidents or hazards to the employer immediately and safeguard the individual's safety at all times.
* Carry out additional duties reasonably required by the employer.
Qualifications & Skills
* Honest, reliable, trustworthy and punctual.
* Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy, including prohibited use of social media in connection with the role.
* Work independently on own initiative and follow instructions accurately.
* Patient, supportive, caring, empathetic and able to provide non‑judgemental emotional support.
* Have a genuine interest in supporting people with a disability or illness.
* Flexible and able to adapt to changing needs on a daily basis.
* Self‑motivated with willingness to engage actively.
* Car owner and driver with valid business insurance (transport requirement).
Transport & DBS
Car ownership and valid business insurance are required; a satisfactory DBS disclosure will be checked (costs covered by the employer).
