Job description
This role involves travel to Plymouth and offers a full-time, permanent engagement for an individual experienced in hydro-mechanical systems, particularly penstock and valve integration.
The successful candidate will blend design, calculation, specification writing, and on-site engineering support.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Design and integration of penstocks, valves, gates, and associated hydro-mechanical equipment
2. Carry out structural and hydraulic calculations, including thrust block and leakage analysis
3. Prepare and review general arrangement drawings, fabrication details, and installation drawings
4. Produce technical specifications, scope documents, and project reports
5. Support procurement by reviewing supplier designs and documentation
6. Ensure compliance with relevant standards, codes, and project requirements
7. Create accurate 2D/3D models and drawings using CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar)
8. Manage drawing revisions and contribute to design reviews
9. Liaise with internal teams, suppliers, and contractors to ensure buildability and quality
10. Provide engineering support during manufacturing, installation, and commissioning
11. Site work, conducting inspections, surveys, and problem-solving
Job Requirements:
Essential skills and experience:
12. Degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related discipline
13. Ideally have experience with hydro-mechanical systems (penstocks, valves, or similar)
14. Competency in thrust and leakage calculations
15. Proficiency in drafting and 3D modelling software
16. Experience in specification writing and technical reporting
17. Full UK driving licence
18. Willingness and flexibility to work off-site as required
Desirable skills:
19. Familiarity with hydro, water, or infrastructure projects
20. Experience liaising directly with fabricators and installation teams
21. Knowledge of relevant design standards (BS, EN, or equivalent)

22. Practical, solutions-focused, and not afraid to get hands-on at site
23. Strong communicator, able to bridge technical and site-based teams
24. Self-motivated, adaptable, and committed to delivering quality outcomes
Benefits:
25. Salary - £50,000-.£60,000 (Dependant on experience)
