Teaching Assistant - Secondary School - Merton
Location: Merton, South West London
Start Date: Mid-October 2025
Contract: Full-time Temporary to Permanent
Working Hours: 8:00am - 4:00pm
Salary: 100- 120 per day (dependent on experience)
This role focuses on supporting students with Special Educational Needs (SEN). You’ll work in the classroom, with small groups, and on a 1:1 basis, providing structure, encouragement, and guidance. More than academic support, this position calls for someone who can be a strong role model, helping students develop resilience, discipline, and confidence.
This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate or an individual with limited school experience who is looking to gain hands-on classroom practice in a supportive environment.
Responsibilities
* Supporting students with SEN during lessons and structured activities
* Providing focused 1:1 mentoring and small group support
* Encouraging positive behaviour and helping students stay on track
* Building strong, professional relationships that earn respect and trust
* Assisting teachers in creating a supportive, disciplined classroom environment
What We’re Looking For
* A degree (preferred, but not essential)
* Experience working with young people - ideally with SEN (though training will be provided)
* Confidence, resilience, and the ability to lead by example
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills
* A genuine interest in helping students overcome challenges and succeed
