The associate practitioner role will be based in the department of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (H&I). We are looking for applicants with clinical laboratory experience in H&I to participate in the activities of the department.
This is a fixed-term/secondment position, open to both internal and external candidates.
The associate practitioner will primarily provide technical support for the diagnostic service to the Trust and other users, following departmental protocols and under supervision.
Responsibilities include preparing specimens, setting up automated equipment, running quality control, and operating analyzers. The role may also involve supervising, organizing, and training less experienced staff.
The associate practitioner will support specimen reception, sorting, and distribution of samples, assessing their suitability and taking remedial actions when necessary.
All specimens will be processed using correct techniques and specialized equipment for screening, diagnosis, and patient management. The role includes maintaining and calibrating automated equipment and manual processing of specimens, including manual DNA extraction.
Supervision and training of staff in laboratory procedures may be required.
