PLEASE NOTE THAT WE WILL ONLY ACCEPT APPLICATIONS FROM STAFF CURRENTLY EMPLOYED BY SWANSEA BAY UNIVERSITY HEALTH BOARD.

We are looking for an individual who is passionate about patient care, motivated, and driven to provide a high standard of nurse-led care to patients referred to the service with plastic surgery trauma injuries. The successful candidate should have extensive post-registration knowledge of plastic surgery, trauma, and/or wound care.

The successful candidate must be motivated and enthusiastic to learn about the plastic surgery trauma service and undertake all necessary training and competencies to meet the service needs. They should have a passion for working towards autonomous practice, making clinical decisions based on best practices and patient interests. Prioritization and time management skills are essential, as the candidate will be accountable for managing their workload and participating in the coordination of the trauma service. The role involves working within the trauma nurse team and being part of the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT).

Main duties of the job

The role is diverse, involving all patients referred to the service with plastic surgery injuries such as hand injuries, skin loss, bites, and amputated limbs. As the only service in South Wales, we serve a large catchment area. The team operates 7 days a week, providing cover from 7:30 am to 8:00 pm, depending on service needs. Daily trauma clinics are held with booked patients, alongside those requiring immediate attention for life and/or limb loss. Referrals from other inpatient services are also managed.

The candidate, with time and education, will be expected to undertake all aspects of the role, including educating junior staff, patients, and relatives. They will also focus on their professional development and the development of the trauma service. The successful candidate will work closely with clinical leaders and managers to identify learning needs within the plastic surgery service, with a tailored training program developed accordingly.
