Offer description

Overview

We are looking to recruit an Occupational Therapist within the Specialist Perinatal Mental Health Service. This is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and passionate occupational therapist to join our perinatal mental health team. The successful candidate will work with women during pregnancy and postnatally, providing occupational therapy input to promote women s mental health and wellbeing, functioning and support their transition to motherhood. The role involves working as part of an MDT consisting of doctors, nurses, psychologists, OT, family support workers and administrative staff. You will work in the community alongside other community services and in patients homes to support women and families who need specialist care. While this role will primarily focus on delivering Perinatal OT interventions in the Sefton district, we cover Liverpool also; there may be times the role requires cross-cover.

Flexible working requests will be considered for all roles.

Responsibilities

* Independently manage own caseload, prioritising referrals.
* Select and complete bespoke standardised and non-standardised OT assessments, applying an understanding of complex mental health needs and the impact this can have on occupational performance within a parenting role, as well as the mother infant relationship. Collaboratively set goals to guide OT interventions.
* Plan and facilitate a range of 1:1 therapeutic interventions using a graded approach to achieve individualised therapeutic goals.
* Contribute towards the planning, facilitation and evaluation of groups.
* Develop working networks with relevant community agencies, collaborating to complete joint working where appropriate.
* Represent an OT clinical perspective within the MDT and other professional meetings.
* Be aware of and respond appropriately to safeguarding needs of adults and children.
* Contribute to the continued development and evaluation of the OT service within the perinatal team.
* Coordinate the care of defined service users, carrying out assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation under CPA guidelines, including acting as care coordinator for more complex cases.
* Monitor and offer professional advice and leadership to team members regarding caseloads and working practices.
* Ensure care plans meet assessed needs; monitor and evaluate progress via performance management to ensure high standards.
* Liaise with family members, carers and significant others when developing care plans.
* Develop risk management plans for service users and ensure appropriate action is taken by the team.
* Participate in duty/on-call rotations within the CMHT where applicable, including appropriate adult responsibilities.
* Lead systematic monitoring and evaluation of service users under care of the sector.
* Maintain knowledge of the Mental Health Act and support service users and carers when it is used to admit a service user to hospital; support staff involved in its application.
* Monitor therapeutic activities for service users and de-escalate situations where violence or aggression occurs; decide on when specialist input is required.
* Develop care plans that enable service users to achieve and maintain optimum health and independence in the community or on discharge.
* Participate in and/or lead service user reviews to ensure needs are met and inform clinical decisions.

Qualifications / Experience

* Experience applying specialist mental health and OT assessment tools to identify OT goals as part of overall care planning.
* Ability to plan and implement client-centred individual and/or group interventions with a graded activity approach.
* Experience in monitoring, evaluating and modifying treatment to measure progress and ensure effectiveness of intervention.
* Ability to apply understanding of disability effects and provide training and advice on lifestyle changes and adaptations to clients s social and physical environments.
* Experience assessing the occupational needs of defined client groups and establishing appropriate treatment programmes.
* Clinical leadership within a team and ability to co-ordinate care for a defined group of service users.
* Ability to work with families, carers and significant others and respond to concerns about care.
* Ability to work across community settings and adapt to cross-district requirements as needed.

We offer specialist inpatient and community services that support physical and mental health and specialist inpatient mental health, learning disability, addiction and brain injury services. Our organisation is committed to delivering high quality care that is safe, effective, and patient-centered.
