Job Summary
The Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust are recruiting for a Locum Consultant in Dermatology on a 24‑month fixed‑term contract.
This post offers an opportunity for continued practice in a wide range of dermatology conditions, including clinics for systemic diseases, routine and cancerous lesions, paediatrics, and skin surgery. The role also includes inpatient referrals and reviews, advice and guidance to primary care, and administrative virtual clinics. Attendance at local MDTs and joint plastic surgery clinics is part of the job plan, with support for RSM education sessions on the 3rd Thursday of each month.
Key Duties
* Provide clinical care across the full spectrum of dermatology conditions, including general skin conditions, systemic diseases (e.g., psoriasis), pigmented lesions, fast‑track cancer clinics, and paediatric dermatology.
* Attend monthly joint clinics with plastic surgeons.
* Participate in a weekly local skin cancer MDT and a bimonthly specialist MDT with colleagues in Oxford.
* Develop and lead local research and audit projects.
* Deliver care in outpatient clinics, inpatient reviews, primary‑care advice, and virtual clinics.
* Provide cover for consultant colleagues during periods of leave.
Responsibilities
* Provide evidence‑based care in a multidisciplinary setting and lead a multi‑professional team.
* Carry out teaching, examination, and accreditation duties for undergraduate and postgraduate staff.
* Engage in continuous medical education and quality improvement initiatives.
* Respond to emergencies and unforeseen clinical circumstances.
* Contribute to administrative duties associated with patient care.
Qualifications
Essential
* Fully registered with the GMC.
* CCT (or equivalent) in Dermatology, or within 6 months of CCT at interview.
* MRCP (UK) or equivalent.
Clinical Experience
* Training/experience equivalent to UK CCT requirements.
* Expertise in the full range of dermatological conditions.
* Ability to lead a multi‑professional team and independently manage clinical care.
* Sub‑specialty interests aligned with departmental needs are supported.
Management Experience
* Demonstrable ability to manage priorities.
* Experience in QI, audit, and management.
* Evidence of management/leadership training.
