We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Antenatal and Postnatal Hospital Maternity Services Ward Manager, to join our innovative senior midwifery team and help shape the future of hospital based maternity services.
About the Role
As the Antenatal and Postnatal Maternity Services Ward Manager, you will provide visible and compassionate leadership within our maternity inpatient services at North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust. You will oversee the daily management of the antenatal and postnatal wards, ensuring safe, effective, and person-centred care for women, birthing people, and their families. This role combines expert clinical practice with strong leadership and team development. You will support and guide staff, foster a positive and collaborative culture, and drive continuous improvement in the quality of care we deliver. Your proactive approach and professional expertise will help ensure high standards are maintained, staff feel supported, and the service continues to evolve to meet the needs of our community.
Main duties of the job
* Line management of staff within the area of responsibility and clinical responsibility for safe and effective care delivery within the Ward Area.
* Safe and effective day-to-day operational management and clinical leadership of midwifery services, leading a team, building, organising actions, setting priorities, objectives and goals.
* Performance manage activity and team members, maintaining a high-quality working environment that maximises staff potential and skill development.
* Exercise excellent judgement in dealing with clinical needs in a challenging, unpredictable maternity unit environment.
Job responsibilities
* A qualified midwife with substantial experience in antenatal and postnatal inpatient care.
* A confident leader who can manage, motivate, and support a team within a busy maternity environment.
* Proven ability to provide expert clinical advice and ensure safe, effective, and compassionate care.
* Experience in day-to-day operational management of a clinical area, including staff supervision, prioritisation, and workload management.
* A proactive approach to the development of midwifery practice and continuous service improvement.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills, engaging and collaborating effectively with colleagues and families.
* Excellent organisational and problem‑solving abilities, particularly in a fast‑paced, unpredictable environment.
* A commitment to staff development, fostering a positive working culture where individuals can thrive and reach their potential.
