Experienced Graduate Highways Engineer
Location: Greater Bristol
We are assisting a growing highways and transportation consultancy in Bristol with the recruitment of an Experienced Graduate Highways Engineer to join their Infrastructure Design team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a graduate who has gained practical experience through an industrial placement, year in industry, or relevant summer placements, and is ready to take on increased responsibility while continuing to develop under the guidance of senior engineers.
You will support the management and delivery of highway and drainage infrastructure projects from early feasibility through to construction, with strong technical exposure and a clear pathway for career progression.

* Retail parks and supermarkets
* Residential developments and urban extensions
* Education and healthcare developments
* Employment schemes, including offices and distribution centres
Key Responsibilities:
* Assist in the design and delivery of highway and infrastructure schemes, with increasing autonomy as experience grows
* Prepare highway layouts, technical drawings, and design reports in line with current standards
* Contribute to Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs) and sustainable drainage system (SuDS) design
* Support Section 278 and Section 38 highway schemes, including approval documentation
* Develop knowledge of drainage agreements (Sections 104 and 106)
* Work collaboratively with internal teams, external consultants, authorities, and contractors
* Attend site visits and assist with monitoring and supervision of construction works
* Support senior engineers in client meetings and technical discussions
* Manage assigned tasks and packages of work to agreed programmes and quality standards
Skills & Experience:
Essential:
* Degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or related discipline
* Practical experience through industrial placement, year in industry, or summer placements in highways/infrastructure/civil engineering
* Demonstrable interest in highways and infrastructure design
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work in a team and independently on defined tasks
* Basic understanding of UK highways and drainage design standards
Desirable:
* Working knowledge of AutoCAD; awareness of AutoTrack, PDS, or similar software
* Exposure to Flood Risk Assessments and SuDS design
* Site-based experience such as construction monitoring or supervision
* Motivation to work toward professional qualification (IEng or CEng)
Development & Progression:
* Structured mentoring and technical support from senior engineers
* Increased responsibility aligned with experience and performance
* Support toward professional accreditation and progression to Engineer and Senior Engineer level
