Job Overview
Acting in the area to which they are assigned, provide consistent and professional support and guidance to SLT team members, operational teams, and contract supply chain to meet QHSE objectives and targets. Work closely with Mitie colleagues to ensure standards of QHSE management are achieved across all operations.
Main Duties
1. Engage with the team from management to shop floor and contractor supply chain to embed health and safety best practices and adhere to client contractor management programs.
2. Lead programmes of work and new initiatives related to health and safety.
3. Manage a regular audit and reporting program, communicating performance across the organization.
4. Serve as a key Health & Safety contact for the Mitie on-site team and contractor supply chain.
5. Manage and deliver training programs, methods, and evaluations to ensure employee competence regarding HSE duties, including toolbox talks.
6. Develop arrangements to manage risks from contractors and third-party suppliers, aligning with client contractor management protocols.
7. Proactively drive the health & safety agenda, including hazard observations, near-miss reporting, and engagement of site safety champions.
8. Investigate site incidents and accidents, addressing circumstances and causes, and recommend improvements.
9. Build strong relationships with the central Mitie HSE team and engage with them on high-risk activities.
10. Conduct regular Gemba walks to ensure safe and effective working conditions.
11. Maintain the COSHH register and conduct assessments outside operational managers' scope, such as Significant Risk, COSHH, DSE, etc.
12. Ensure site files are current and complete for all service lines.
13. Manage and maintain registers for Noise, Vibration, and ladders.
14. Monitor subcontractor safe systems of work periodically.
15. Perform performance audits on permits, ensuring correct procedures are followed.
16. Monitor all audit actions and NIEs, working with owners to ensure completion.
What we are looking for
1. Qualifications and experience:
* Safety and/or environmental experience in previous roles.
* NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent Level 3 qualification is essential.
* Strong technical/engineering understanding in manufacturing/pharmaceutical environments.
* Evidence of ongoing professional development.
* Practical experience in audits/inspections.
* Experience in delivering QHSE initiatives.
* Expertise in incident investigation and root cause analysis.
* Knowledge of the Integrated Facilities Management sector, especially Hard or Soft Services.
* Understanding of risk assessment processes.
