Job Description
Reporting to the Board, the purpose of this role is to execute business and operations strategies, focusing on operational management, engineering, and quality systems. The role involves driving and optimizing processes to ensure high levels of Safety, Quality, Delivery, Productivity, and People Engagement, implementing structures and systems to support the business plan within the Operations function.
The Multi-site Operations Director will oversee daily responsibilities related to production, engineering, and quality, fostering a high-performance culture through effective relationships and collaboration across all functions. Key responsibilities include:
1. Providing strategic leadership for Operations and guiding all functional areas to support business success.
2. Optimizing operational performance, including efficiency and productivity.
3. Driving a coordinated, engaged team culture in a unionized environment.
4. Ensuring compliance with the quality management system.
5. Implementing and maintaining performance metrics for business monitoring.
6. Establishing systems to support production plans, including escalation mechanisms.
7. Collaborating with leadership to ensure appropriate organizational structure, capacity, and resources.
8. Embedding lean culture and practices (OPEX).
9. Supporting customer relationships through knowledge, commitment, and consistent results.
10. Supporting new product introduction, capital expenditure planning, and organizational capacity planning.
11. Managing budgets and business plans to meet revenue and profit targets.
12. Promoting understanding and support of cultural values and standards across employees.
The Successful Applicant
* Experience in Production and Engineering at multi-site leadership level in industrial manufacturing.
* Background in mechanical component assembly, metal fabrication, welding, machining, or precision engineering.
* Recent permanent work experience in relevant fields, with local ties preferred.
* Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or related field (preferred).
* Proven success in managing operations for profitability through operational excellence, lean manufacturing, and team development.
* Experience in building and managing customer relationships in competitive environments.
* Engineering knowledge is desirable but not essential; relevant environments include fabrication, welding, assembly, machining, and metal components.
* Formal management or business qualifications (level 5 or higher) are desirable but not essential.
* Good knowledge of SIGMA 6 and Lean methodologies.
What's on Offer
£120,000 plus bonus, car/car allowance, and benefits (negotiable for the right candidate).
