Principal Civil Engineer – Water Sector
Location: Preston (Hybrid, with regular site visits)
Overview
We’re recruiting for a Principal Civil Engineer to join a key engineering team delivering water and wastewater projects. This is a hybrid role based in Preston, with some travel to site as needed.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the civil engineering design process on water and wastewater treatment projects
* Produce cost effective, buildable solutions that meet all spec and safety standards
* Coordinate civil design with internal teams and external partners
* Provide technical input and estimates to support proposals and bids
* Apply and improve standard design procedures
* Write and update efficient workflows and processes
* Mentor junior staff and contribute to team development
* Maintain accurate design records throughout the project lifecycle
* Consider safety, environmental impact, and long-term cost in design decisions
What You’ll Need
* Civil Engineering degree
* Chartered or working towards it
* Experience in water and wastewater infrastructure
* Ability to lead teams and coordinate across disciplines
* Strong understanding of multi-disciplinary interfaces (MEICA, process, etc.)
* Skilled in producing practical, efficient layouts
* Good IT and design software skills
* Full UK driving licence
