Role Purpose
The Behaviour Mentor will work with pupils experiencing difficulties with behaviour, emotional regulation, and social interaction. You will provide direct support both in classrooms and during small group interventions, helping pupils develop resilience, self-confidence, and positive social skills.
This role involves close collaboration with teachers, EYFS staff, SENCO, and parents to ensure consistent strategies are implemented across the school environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 behavioural and emotional support to pupils in Nursery, Reception, and KS1
* Lead small group interventions targeting social skills, emotional literacy, and self-regulation
* Support children during classroom activities, transitions, and unstructured periods
* Assist pupils in managing emotions and behaviour during playtimes and lunchtimes
* Implement and monitor individual behaviour support plans
* Use restorative, play-based, and trauma-informed approaches
* Model positive behaviour and emotional regulation
* Observe, assess, and record pupil progress and intervention outcomes
* Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, EYFS staff, and pastoral teams
* Build strong, professional relationships with parents and carers
* Contribute to planning, review meetings, and multi-agency support discussions
* Promote a school culture of inclusion, empathy, and respect
* Uphold safeguarding and child protection procedures consistently
The Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will be emotionally intelligent, patient, and resilient, with a strong passion for supporting young children. You will understand that behaviour is a form of communication and respond with empathy, structure, and consistency.
Candidates should have:
* Experience working in Primary, Nursery, or EYFS environments
* Knowledge of SEND, SEMH, ADHD, ASD, and attachment-informed approaches
* Confidence implementing behaviour interventions and monitoring outcomes
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Emotional resilience and reflective practice
* A proactive, flexible approach to supporting pupils and staff
Relevant qualifications in education, childcare, psychology, youth work, or mental health are desirable.
Training and Professional Development
