Electrical Engineer
Location: Northumberland, UK
Department: Engineering
Shift Pattern: Continental shift pattern – 12‑hour shifts rotating days and nights
Salary: £50,793.68 – £57,528.97, inclusive of shift allowance, DOE
An established manufacturing organisation in Northumberland is seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to join its Engineering team. This is a site‑based, hands‑on role focused on maintaining and improving electrical systems that support a high‑performance manufacturing operation.
The Role
The successful candidate will provide electrical engineering support to ensure production equipment, facilities, and services are maintained to a high standard. Working closely with engineering, production, and project teams, the role plays a key part in equipment reliability, safety, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out routine and preventative maintenance on production equipment
* Diagnose and repair electrical faults on manufacturing machinery and support equipment
* Perform calibration, validation, and corrective adjustments on devices such as load cells and temperature controllers
* Provide engineering support to production to improve machine output and resolve process issues
* Assist with the installation and commissioning of new equipment
* Work alongside the on‑site project team to develop new or improved electrical control systems
* Maintain accurate maintenance records using a CMMS
* Ensure full compliance with health & safety regulations and site procedures (including LOTO, permits to work, risk assessments, and ATEX requirements)
* Support and mentor junior technicians and apprentices where required
Technical Skills & Knowledge
* Proven experience fault‑finding and troubleshooting Siemens PLC systems
* Familiarity with AC/DC drives (Siemens and ABB preferred)
* Working knowledge of tension control systems
* Experience with industrial bus systems such as Profibus and Profinet
* Strong ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and drawings
* Solid understanding of industrial electrical systems and best practices
Qualifications & Experience
* Completed apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline
* HNC (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering
* Knowledge of current electrical installation standards (desirable but not essential)
* Knowledge of ATEX zoning and hazardous environments (desirable but not essential)
