We are seeking a creative, innovative, and enthusiastic specialist OT to deliver assessment and interventions to children and young people (CYP) with functional difficulties.

This role is a great development opportunity to gain experience in both mainstream and special schools' settings, within our supportive integrated teams.

This post offers great potential for the candidate to pursue specialist interests and develop skills, including opportunities for trainings relevant to the field. To contribute to further development of evidence-based pathways for CYP within paediatric OT

The post holder will provide specialist OT assessment and interventions to children and young people, managing a caseload of clients with a variety of developmental disabilities. The children and young people will present with a range of needs relating to self-care, play and school activities.

Greenwich Children's Integrated Therapies Service operates within the following three service areas:Early Years Team, School Years Team and Special Schools Team

Main duties of the job

* To provide specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapy assessment and intervention to children aged 0 - 18 years, within the borough of Greenwich.
* To independently manage a defined caseload of complex cases with evidence of a high level of problem solving, reasoning skills and judgement.
* To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of patients/clients who have difficulties with Occupational performance due to physical, sensory, perceptual or developmental needs.
* To write reports and programmes reflecting specialist knowledge.
* To liaise closely with other services and agencies to provide a smooth coordinated service based on best practice.
* To participate in service development and provide information on issues pertaining to specialist area on a regular basis.
* To provide training and advice for families and carers across all settings on issues pertaining to Paediatric Occupational Therapy.

Job responsibilities

* To perform a Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapy role in the community, with children who have complex difficulties with Occupational Performance due to physical, sensory, perceptual or developmental needs.
* To assess the functional needs of patients in order to develop and implement Specialist Paediatric Occupational Therapy treatment.
* To independently manage a defined caseload of complex cases with evidence of a high level of problem solving, reasoning skills and judgement.
* To write reports and programmes reflecting specialist knowledge.
* To provide advice to others regarding the management and care of patients/clients who have difficulties with Occupational performance due to physical, sensory, perceptual or developmental disability.
* To ensure that patients and carers are involved in the planning and prioritisation of care wherever possible.
* To monitor, evaluate and modify intervention in consultation with Clinical Service Manager, to ensure the effectiveness of case management.
* To adapt practice to meet individual patient circumstance, giving due regard to cultural differences and diversity.
* To liaise and negotiate with others, for example, parents, Health Consultants, social workers, teachers, G.P.s, as appropriate to facilitate effective case management.


Person Specification


Training and Qualifications

* Degree in OT
* HCPC Registration


Experience

* Minimum 2 years post registration experience
* Post-qualifying clinical experience in paediatrics
* Experience working with Children in Special Schools or with complex needs


Knowledge and Skills

* Knowledge of OT Process and knowledge of OT assessments and interventions relevant to clinical area.
* Ability to work autonomously, set own priorities and manage time effectively
* Wide range of knowledge of paediatrics assessments and interventions
