Are you enthusiastic, self-motivated, flexible, reliable, and well-organized? Can you work equally well independently or as part of a team? Do you use your own initiative to solve day-to-day problems? Then consider joining the friendly and hardworking team of the Decontamination Services Department (DSD).
Are you passionate about patient safety and interested in working for a high-quality decontamination services department at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust that delivers excellent patient care?
Would you like to develop your knowledge in the decontamination and sterilisation of surgical instruments?
The Decontamination Services Department (DSD) provides sterile services to five hospitals within Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust. The department operates to the highest standards and is accredited to Medical Device European Directive 93/42/EEC and ISO 13485:2016. DSD is located in a large, state-of-the-art, purpose-built facility on the Oxford Road Site.
As a DSD Technician, you will undertake the decontamination, inspection, assembly, packaging, sterilisation, and distribution of medical devices (surgical instruments) for operating theatres and departments across the Oxford Road site, as well as to external customers. You will ensure the service is provided efficiently and in accordance with departmental policies, procedures, and the Quality Management System.
No specific qualifications are required, although a background in sterile services would be beneficial. We provide a comprehensive induction and ongoing training programme. You should be reasonably fit, as the role involves manual handling, walking, and standing activities. You must be able to follow procedures in a production environment, have effective communication skills, a conscientious and methodical approach to work, and the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
