The Filo Project is a not-for-profit enterprise offering high quality, small group day care for older people. Small groups give time and space for people to feel at ease and form friendships. The Filo Project started in Devon in 2014 and expanded to Somerset in 2020. Since then we have expanded into East Lancashire and Cornwall. We are also now launching in Bournemouth, Christchurch & Poole. Our service is primarily for those who are socially isolated and may also be experiencing symptoms associated with early to moderate dementia including memory loss. Community Engagement Officer Job Description
The role of the Community Engagement Coordinator is to work with the Chief Operating Officer, Service Manager and Local Area Co-ordinator to manage the relationship between The Filo Project and its local Community. The Community Engagement Coordinator plays a pivotal role in fostering positive relationships and partnerships within the community to The Filo Project. This position involves developing and implementing strategies to engage with stakeholders, including clients, families, caregivers, future hosts and local organisations. The Community Engagement Coordinator works to enhance awareness of The Filo Project services, promote community engagement with the service, and ensure the delivery of high-quality care that meets the diverse needs of individuals within the community.
Key Duties And Responsibilities
* Develop and execute a comprehensive community engagement plan for your area, to:
o raise awareness of The Filo Project
o increase access for individuals in need of The Filo Project services
o Engaging potential future hosts.
* Elevate existing relationships and establish positive relationships with key stakeholders, including local health and social service organisations, community groups, and relevant government agencies.
* Collaborate with internal teams to identify opportunities for community outreach and partnership development.
* Organise and participate in community events, workshops, and information sessions to educate the public about The Filo Project and available support services.
* Conduct outreach activities to connect with potential clients, families, and caregivers, providing information, support, and guidance as needed.
* Collect feedback from clients, families, and community members to identify areas for improvement and inform service development initiatives.
* Assist our Communications Team in the development of marketing materials, including brochures, flyers, and social media content, to promote The Filo Project and engage with the community.
* Stay informed about community needs to adapt engagement strategies accordingly.
* Maintain accurate records of community engagement activities, including attendance, feedback, and outcomes, to support reporting and evaluation efforts.
* Identifying key stakeholders in their area - maintaining contact list and records of contacts/engagements.
* Working alongside the Area Coordinator very closely to ensure effective operations within your locality.
* Maintaining communication through email, newsletters, phone calls, and social media.
* Monitoring community engagement activities, contributing to reports, and participating in the development of program evaluation projects
* Communicating and liaising with other departments for consistency of our brands representation.
Work Environment
* Lone working - You will be working from your own home and in the homes of your clients and hosts.
* You will receive an excellent induction and the support of the Chief Operating Officer and Service Manager for the first 6 months of your role.
* You will liaise with the wider team, including the Communications Team, Recruitment Team and Head Office to manage aspects of your role.
* You will be given training in Dementia, Safeguarding and Data Protection.
Person Specification - Essential Requirements
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and collaborate effectively with diverse populations.
* Demonstrated ability to develop and implement community engagement strategies, including event planning, public speaking, and outreach campaigns.
* Proficiency with using social media platforms, such as Facebook, Twitter, LI, Instagram.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Meet, Slides, etc.) and good general IT skills.
* Strong organisational skills and readiness to work on several projects simultaneously.
* Absolute professionalism when dealing with stakeholders and clients to represent the company in a positive light.
* Ability to work under tight deadlines with minimum supervision.
* Confidence as a lone worker, and also a good team player.
* Self-motivation.
* A flexible and creative approach to your work.
* An understanding of the needs of older people.
* A caring and empathetic disposition.
* Excellent face to face and written communication.
* A good telephone manner.
* A clean valid driving licence and use of your own car.
* Good people skills. The ability to foster relationships and build teams.
Desirable Skills
* Previous experience in community engagement, outreach, or advocacy roles, particularly in health or social care settings.
* Supervisory experience or Leadership experience.
* Administrative experience.
Pay and Hours
£13.22 per hour plus expenses for mileage. Part time flexible contract - up to a maximum of 10 hours per week, working from home and in your local area. This is a flexible contract with no fixed hours. There is an anticipation that you will be working between 5 and 10 hours per week arranged by you over the week. The role accrues paid holiday per hour worked at a rate of 0.12 hours per hour. Employees are expected to take no more than two weeks holiday at any one time, to suit the needs of the organisation.
