Overview
Tony Gee seeks an Environmental Services Lead to develop and deliver integrated environmental solutions across all sectors, including rail, highways, power, and marine. The role will lead the environmental service offering, manage delivery of EIAs, planning consents, and biodiversity outcomes, and work closely with engineering teams to embed environmental performance into projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and develop the environmental service offering, primarily delivered through a supply chain of specialist sub‐consultants.
* Manage EIA delivery, from coordinating EIA chapter production to integrating regulatory requirements into engineering deliverables.
* Serve as interface between in‑house technical leads (flood, contamination, transport, landscape, ecology, arboriculture) and subconsultants for environmental consents, planning conditions and mitigation.
* Advise on biodiversity, Net Gain (BNG), and Nature Positive solutions.
* Work with Power & Energy and Highways sector heads to identify business‑development opportunities and strengthen in‑house environmental capabilities.
* Develop client relationships and secure new work for the environmental services portfolio.
* Provide day‑to‑day management, training, and strategic direction for the environmental discipline team.
* Ensure financial targets are met, including preparation of fee budgets and proposals.
* Deliver risk management and quality assurance for environmental deliverables across concurrent projects.
* Collaborate with the Head of Sustainability, supply‑chain manager, and sector office leads to build a strategic environmental services supply chain.
* Act as a role model for staff and stakeholders, promoting environmental excellence within the company.
Required Experience & Skills
* 15+ years of progressive experience in environmental consultancy, leading and managing multidisciplinary teams.
* Deep knowledge of UK statutory regulations (Planning, EIA, LEMPs, LBMPs, HMMPs, CEMPs) and best practice.
* Proven ability to interface with planning and engineering disciplines and to produce core EIA chapters, especially ecology or landscape architecture.
* Experience managing supply‑chain relationships and interfacing with statutory bodies such as Environment Agency and Natural England.
* Track record of delivering biodiversity net gain and nature‑positive outcomes for clients.
* Strong communication, interpersonal and team‑leadership skills.
* Client‑facing skills and capacity to develop new business and relationships with clients and subconsultants.
* Knowledge of BIM protocols (BS EN ISO 19650) and use of GIS mapping is desirable.
Desirable Experience & Skills
* Experience with planning applications and design‑and‑build proposals.
* Knowledge of contract types (NEC, ACE) and civil engineering disciplines.
* Experience delivering services under a variety of contract frameworks.
Qualifications
CEnv or equivalent professional membership (IEMA/ISEP, ICE, CIEEM, CIWEM) and a recognised institutional qualification.
