Clinical Lead – Children's Community Nursing Team

The closing date is 05 January 2026

To undertake the role of management and leadership of the Children's Community Nursing Team ensuring the development and delivery of an effective, sustainable service that will improve outcomes for children.

To undertake clinical duties to meet the needs of the service and ensure effective provision of safeguarding functions.


Main duties of the job

* Manage own caseload and oversee service caseload
* Deliver clinical interventions for Children & Young People
* Make evidence‑based clinical decisions and maintain professional skills
* Act as an advocate for children and families within the service
* Communicate complex clinical information effectively to families and stakeholders
* Analyse health and risk factors for treatment planning and referrals
* Support staff in care planning and implementation
* Develop and deliver education/training programmes for professionals
* Ensure effective referral processes and resource planning
* Promote information sharing and partnership working across agencies
* Monitor compliance with regulatory standards and quality requirements
* Provide specialised clinical advice and support service development
* Maintain accurate records and performance management systems
* Support transition of care into adult services

You’ll oversee complex caseloads, shape best practice, and work collaboratively across health, education and social care to achieve outstanding outcomes.


Job responsibilities

* Facilitate regular team meetings and integrated working
* Identify and address training needs through PDR and forums
* Build links with commissioners and stakeholders to influence policy and best practice
* Lead audits, surveys, policy development, and research initiatives
* Develop and maintain professional expertise and act as a role model
* Create guidelines, protocols, and care pathways for children’s health needs
* Ensure compliance with NMC standards, medicines management, and record keeping
* Manage HR processes including sickness, recruitment, and disciplinary procedures
* Plan annual leave and appraisals to maintain equitable workloads
* Monitor and manage team budgets and financial targets
* Investigate incidents and embed learning into practice
* Ensure delivery of clinical services and adherence to Trust policies


Qualifications

* Registered Nurse
* Registered Sick Children’s Nurse
* Registered Nurse (Child)
* Degree level qualification or equivalent
* Proven experience of continued professional development at postgraduate level
* Evidence of education or extensive experience within the field of Children’s Community Nursing
* Trained safeguarding supervisor or willing to complete this course
* Leadership Qualification
* Mentorship/Teaching Qualification
* Community Nursing/Specialist Practitioner Qualification


Experience

* Experience working with Children & Young People who have complex health needs
* Experience of working with vulnerable Children & Young People
* Experience of developing and evaluating services/activities to meet need and improve outcomes for children
* Experience of facilitating teaching/training programmes
* Experience of personnel management including staff recruitment, induction, career development, supervision and appraisal
* Experience of providing effective line management
* Experience of working within a range of policies to meet organisational need
* Experience of undertaking audit and/or research
* Proven ability to understand and professionally manage a team of professionals
* Experience of leading teams
* Evidence of partnership working

* Ability to work with Children & Young People, their families and carers to provide holistic, evidence‑based care and assessment
* Ability to nurture skills and to delegate appropriately
* Ability to make decisions and manage conflict
* Experience of managing change and innovations in practice

* Proven ability to function well as part of a team
* Ability to analyse complex situations (e.g., safeguarding) to ensure service delivery is most effective in supporting positive outcomes for children
* Ability to lead and inspire
* Ability to work in partnership with other healthcare workers, agencies, and in partnership with parents
* Knowledge of Norfolk Safeguarding Children Board policies and procedures
* Knowledge of legislation relating to children and national/local policy for children with complex needs
* Evidence of a high level of clinical skill delivery in line with local and national guidance
* Ability to teach and assess competency‑based practice
* Experience of evaluation and clinical audit
* Knowledge of SystmOne and how to use it
* Use of Excel spreadsheets
* Management of central venous access devices
* Administration of intravenous, subcutaneous and intramuscular medications
* Managing children at the end of life


Communication

* Ability to speak the English language and maintain contemporaneous care in records written in English
* Ability to use the highest level of interpersonal and communication skills when engaging with Children & Young People, families, staff groups, partners and stakeholders to deliver information that may be highly complex, sensitive or contentious
* Utilise communication skills and different communication methods to ensure the voice of the child is heard and captured within the delivery of care
* To develop communication links with all stakeholders of this service to support service review and development
* Alternative communication methods such as signing, picture based communication skills or use with technologies such as eye gaze

* Must work within the professional ethics, NMC Code and NCH&C’s policies
* Desire to undertake training and development appropriate to the needs of the post
