Overview
Locum Cardiology Consultant with a subspecialty interest in heart failure. Fixed-term locum appointment, full-time (10 PAs), one-year duration at Whittington Hospital, London. The appointee must be accredited in Cardiology and be on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of admission to the Specialist Register. A subspecialty interest in heart failure is a requirement. There is no general internal medicine on-call requirement, but on-call duties can be accommodated in the job plan for a qualified appointee.

Responsibilities
* Lead inpatient rounds on the cardiology ward on designated days; chair the multidisciplinary team rounds; review and manage patients in the ward setting
* Contribute to the in-reach service to the acute admissions unit and other wards; assess patients and discuss cases with trainee doctors
* Oversee care of patients in outpatient clinics and in the community; arrange investigations and institute appropriate treatments
* Provide direct clinical supervision to trainee doctors and nurse specialists
* Offer advice and support to local general practitioners
* Collaborate with colleagues within cardiology, acute/general medicine and the wider community; provide reasonable cover for colleague leave as needed
* Participate in local and national audits and drive improvements in local clinical effectiveness; undertake mandatory local training
* Maintain Continuing Medical Education to GMC standards, including hospital appraisals
* Report to the Executive Medical Director and Chief Executive Officer for the satisfactory conduct of professional duties
Clinical and Subspecialty Requirements
* Subspecialty training in heart failure; contribute to the subspecialty interests of the department
* Experience in leading and coordinating cardiology care across inpatient and outpatient settings
Qualifications
* Degree in Medicine
* Full GMC registration
* Full membership of the Royal College of Physicians or equivalent
* Certificate of completion of training in cardiology or equivalent (or within 6 months of completion)
Desirable
* Research qualification (MD/PhD)
* Evidence of postgraduate medical training delivery
Teaching, research and leadership
* Experience delivering undergraduate medical teaching
* Demonstrable team leadership and staff management skills
* Knowledge of NHS developments relating to heart failure policy
* Computer literacy
