ESOL Tutor – (Maternity Cover, 1 Year)
Location: Canning Town, London
Contract: Full-time - Fixed-term (1year MAT)
Salary: £32,500
This role involves delivering high-quality teaching, learning and assessment for ESOL students aged 14–19, including learners with complex needs and behaviours. The tutor will create a safe, inclusive learning environment and support students to progress into further education, employment or training.
The role requires strong behaviour management, effective student support, and a focus on achieving positive outcomes in engagement, achievement and progression. The tutor will work collaboratively with teaching staff to ensure consistently high standards of teaching, safeguarding and student development.
ESOL Tutor - What you'll be doing..
* Teach ESOL from Pre-Entry to Level 2.
* Deliver Entry Level Functional Skills Maths.
* Plan and deliver engaging lessons that meet the diverse needs of learners.
* Create an inclusive classroom environment that promotes respect, achievement and progression.
* Set high expectations for behaviour and manage classroom conduct effectively.
* Use varied teaching strategies and resources to support individual learning needs.
* Develop and maintain schemes of work aligned with curriculum and regulatory requirements.
* Monitor, assess and record learner progress, setting clear targets for improvement.
* Provide accurate reports, tracking data and management information as required.
* Support students with complex needs and behaviours to remain engaged in learning.
* Build positive relationships with learners and contribute to their personal and academic development.
* Engage with parents/carers regarding learner progress where appropriate.
* Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure effective pastoral support.
* Maintain accurate records, registers and assessment documentation.
* Complete administrative tasks related to teaching and examinations.
* Support the effective use of classroom support staff.
ESOL Tutor - What we're looking for..
* Hold a recognised teaching qualification
* Experience in a similar role
* Experience teaching learners with complex needs and behaviours
* Access to a car and a full driving licence is essential
* Degree in a relevant subject and Level 5 teaching qualification (desirable)
