Overview
Portsmouth Water are delighted to have an opening for a Network Planner in our highly regarded Network department to take responsibility for the efficient planning and coordination of Metering Equipment Technician (MET), Network Technician, and Network Field Technician activities. In this role, you will ensure operational priorities are met and field teams are effectively supported by providing critical planning input during real-time network incidents. You will also contribute to the analysis of recurring performance issues and play a key part in cross‑functional collaboration and continuous improvement initiatives. By combining day‑to‑day operational planning with strategic insight and proactive problem‑solving, the role ensures network reliability, customer impact reduction, and enhanced planning effectiveness across the department.
Responsibilities
* Lead on planning of MET, NT & NFT checks and follow‑on visits, ensuring all activities are scheduled efficiently and in line with operational priorities.
* Manage and respond to internal meter requests received through the MyMeter inbox, ensuring all work is processed accurately and promptly.
* Ensure smooth coordination between planning and field‑based teams, particularly METs, NTs & NFTs.
* Provide planning input to support real‑time incident response, particularly in cases of pressure issues, unplanned outages, or supply interruptions.
* Liaise with technical teams to assess operational impact and ensure planning aligns with field capabilities and network conditions.
* Support root cause analysis for recurring network performance issues (e.g. pressure drops, repeated outages) – record and track findings, assistance in development of long‑term solutions and preventive measures.
* Participate in and contribute to cross‑functional initiatives and process improvements.
* Work collaboratively across multiple departments.
* Actively retain and apply knowledge from previous issues/incidents to support faster resolution and improved planning accuracy.
* Identify opportunities to improve planning processes, tools, or communication flows.
Qualifications
* Analytical mindset with team leading or supervisory experience.
* Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Excel.
* Strong leadership skills.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills.
* Organised & detail‑oriented, adaptable & resilient.
* Experience with IFS.
* Knowledge of Water Distribution Networks.
* Experience in field resource planning.
* Experience in planning of MET, NT & NFT visits.
