Permanent, Full-Time and Part-Time roles.
Would you like to work in one of the largest Private Housing Services in England and help improve Bristol’s private rented sector housing standards, as well as enforce the new requirements of the Renters’ Rights Act 2025? Bristol is a vibrant city with a high number of privately owned and rented properties. We currently deliver a number of area‑based property licensing schemes, in addition to the city‑wide mandatory licensing of Houses in Multiple Occupation.
A large proportion of our work involves tackling poor conditions and unsatisfactory management in licensed properties. The service also inspects a significant number of properties that do not require a licence, taking reactive and targeted action in line with our enforcement policy objectives. A competence‑based grading system rewards experienced officers for their expertise and supports newer‑qualified officers in developing their careers. You will be offered a point on the pay scale based on experience and level of qualification. Once in post you can progress to the top of the scale through annual increments and assessed levels of competency.
