DAY TO DAY:
* Manage a diverse caseload of family law matters, including divorce petitions, child custody agreements, financial settlements, pre-nuptial agreements, court applications, consent orders, mediation documentation, domestic abuse protection orders, adoption paperwork, legal aid applications, correspondence, and evidence such as witness statements and financial records.
* Conduct client consultations to understand their family law issues and provide clear, informed legal advice on available options.
* Maintain regular communication with clients to keep them updated on the progress of their cases.
* Draft and review legal documents, including divorce petitions and custody arrangements, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
* Prepare thoroughly for court hearings by collating evidence and drafting legal statements.
* Represent clients in court during hearings and dispute resolution sessions.
* Negotiate with opposing parties to achieve amicable settlements, minimising the need for court proceedings. Participate actively in mediation and alternative dispute resolution processes.
* Conduct comprehensive legal research to stay abreast of developments in family law and relevant case precedents.
* Collaborate effectively with colleagues and external professionals to develop and implement case strategies.
* Maintain detailed and accurate records of client interactions, case information, and billing.
* Ensure compliance with legal aid requirements and assist clients with their applications.
* Supervise and mentor junior staff and trainee solicitors, fostering their professional development.
Experience Required:
* Proven experience managing a varied caseload of family law matters
* Demonstrable expertise in drafting and reviewing complex legal documents such as divorce petitions, consent orders, and pre-nuptial agreements.
* Experience representing clients in court and conducting negotiations to achieve settlements outside of court where possible.
* Strong knowledge of current family law legislation, case law, and procedural rules.
* Proven ability to liaise effectively with clients, colleagues, and external professionals.
* Previous involvement in mediation and alternative dispute resolution preferred.
* Experience supervising or mentoring junior staff or trainee solicitors is desirable.
* Excellent organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple cases and maintain accurate records.
* Collaborative, motivated team player while also having the ability to work independently.
