TRAFFIC PLANNER – JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Traffic Planner
REPORTING TO: Planning Manager
OVERALL PURPOSE: To execute an efficient transport plan through effective use of resources to deliver the highest standards of service and compliance.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
* Timely and accurate planning of the transport operation.
* Building effective relationships with customers and drivers to ensure strong communication.
* Making sure drivers have clear instructions and checking they are followed.
* Managing different vehicle types (fridge trailers, curtain trailers, bulk tankers, vans, meat rails, rigid trucks).
* Ensuring loads are compliant in terms of weight, temperature, security.
* Managing and overseeing the active sourcing and conversion of both primary and back load activity to ensure optimum resource capability and maximise revenue opportunity.
* Actively supporting and contributing to quality management including participation in meetings, reports regarding updates, new policies, new procedures and customer specific requirements.
* Reporting incidents and accidents in a timely manner. Complete investigation reports and follow up actions.
* Managing the plan to facilitate vehicle and trailer inspection, service, repairs, MOT and fridge maintenance schedules are carried out at the correct time.
* Monitoring the quality, quantity & cost efficiency of the movement of goods.
* Ensuring compliance with vehicle and trailer hygiene, load and vehicle security, fraud and vulnerability and general requirements of BRCGS and DTAS standards.
* Ensuring drivers are trained to required standard and utilising the driver trainer to support additional requirements.
SPAN OF ACTIVITIES
* Following through the plan to ensure all work is covered.
* Reporting unavoidable delays to customers at the earliest opportunity.
* Providing customer KPI reports as required.
KEY SKILLS
* Experience and knowledge of all aspects of traffic office operations including vehicles, trailers, payload dimensions, manual handling equipment, health and safety, drivers’ hours/tachograph legislation.
* Ability to use various and changing digital platforms used in transport management (tracking, cameras, maintenance, planning tools, tacho analysis, customer portals).
* Problem solving ability including tenacity to work through and find effective solutions to complex problems.
* Having awareness of, and strategic response to legislation and compliance changes and other factors that directly affect transport operation.
* Competence to manage and understand transport refrigeration operation.
* Excellent time management skills including the ability to work under pressure and multi-task whilst maintaining excellent attention to detail.
* Excellent communicator at all levels.
* Strong geographical knowledge.
* Full driving licence.
