Ridge is growing its Building Safety and Building Regulations capability in response to the Building Safety Act and wider regulatory change. We are looking for a Senior Building Safety Consultant to join our Birmingham-based team, working across complex projects in sectors including residential, commercial, healthcare, education and data centres.
Responsibilities
* Act as a trusted technical adviser, supporting clients and design teams to deliver compliant, defensible solutions without turning compliance into a box‑ticking exercise.
* Span the project lifecycle, with particular emphasis on RIBA Stages 4‑6.
* Advise on Building Regulations and Building Safety Act duties.
* Support delivery of the Building Regulations Principal Designer role.
* Review and constructively challenge design proposals.
* Work with architectural, fire, structural and MEP teams to resolve compliance issues.
* Support gateway processes and regulatory submissions.
Qualifications
* Strong experience in detailed design development and technical coordination.
* Practical knowledge of the Building Regulations.
* Understanding of how the Building Safety Act affects projects.
* Confidence working with design teams and clients.
* Ability to manage multiple projects and apply sound judgement.
* Experience with higher‑risk buildings or BRPD delivery is beneficial but not essential.
About the role
This is an advisory, design‑led role, not Building Control or regulatory approval. The role is particularly suited to experienced Architectural Technologists, Design Managers, or technical design leads who are comfortable operating at RIBA Stage 4 onwards, leading technical coordination and managing compliance as part of live project delivery.
Ridge offers a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment where technical voices are respected and good judgement is valued. You'll be supported by experienced colleagues, clear governance, and a culture that focuses on getting compliance right without unnecessary risk or over‑prescription.
Equal Opportunity
We believe that everyone performs their best when they feel like they belong and can be their true selves at work. As an equal opportunities employer, we will support you to ensure you have everything you need to be successful and achieve your best in your career at Ridge.
Benefits
* Annual leave: 25 days per annum with the option to buy, carry over or sell.
* Community spirit: 3 volunteering days each year.
* Mental health support: Mental Health First Aiders and Unum Help@hand app.
* Financial benefits: life assurance, pension scheme and income protection.
* Physical wellbeing: medical insurance, private GP access and discounted gym membership.
* Flexible working: hybrid arrangement suitable for you and your team.
* Career development: pathway focused on your professional, personal or educational aspirations.
* Performance bonus and car allowance based on role and progression.
