Role Purpose
We are seeking a Project Planning Engineer (Construction) to support the planning, coordination, and delivery of multiple residential refurbishment and development projects across the UK. This role involves project planning, cost control, technical review, and construction coordination from feasibility stage through to completion. The ideal candidate will ensure projects are delivered efficiently, within budget, and in compliance with UK regulations and quality standards.
Working closely with the Business Development Manager (BDM) and Quantity Surveyor (QS), the Project Planning Engineer will prepare programmes, support feasibility studies, review technical drawings, manage tender processes, and oversee reporting across several concurrent projects (typically £200K–£300K each).
1. Feasibility & Pre-Design
* Collaborate with Business Development to assess feasibility options and design scenarios.
* Provide early-stage cost estimates and programme durations for proposed layouts.
* Advise on buildability, logistics, sequencing, and site constraints.
* Validate refurbishment and MEP cost assumptions to support development appraisals.
2. Design Development & Technical Coordination
* Review architectural, MEP, and structural drawings for efficiency and constructability.
* Coordinate with consultants on utilities, drainage, heating, insulation, gas, and electrical strategies.
* Conduct property condition assessments and determine required strip‑out levels.
* Recommend design modifications that improve quality, cost, or programme delivery.
* Ensure compliance with UK Building Regulations and all required certifications.
* Prepare scopes of work, specifications, and tender documentation with the QS and BDM.
* Manage tender processes for main contractors or subcontractors depending on project scale.
* Evaluate bids and support contract negotiations and awards.
* Lead value engineering sessions to optimize cost and performance.
* Ensure tender submissions are clear, accurate, and aligned with project objectives.
4. Construction Planning, Monitoring & Reporting
* Develop, issue, and maintain project programmes for all active sites.
* Conduct regular site visits (typically twice per week) to monitor progress, quality, and compliance.
* Coordinate contractor activities and support QS with valuations and variation assessments.
* Maintain accurate cost forecasts, risk logs, and schedule updates.
* Issue weekly or monthly progress reports and highlight required corrective actions.
* Oversee snagging, quality checks, and project handover activities.
Experience Required
* Experience in two or more of the following roles: Project Engineer, Technical Coordinator, Cost & Programme Engineer, Assistant Project Manager.
* Proven experience working with design consultants (MEP, structural, architectural).
* Hands‑on involvement in tendering, cost estimation, and progress reporting.
* Experience in small‑scale residential or refurbishment projects (typically below £10M GDV).
* Familiarity with Revit or similar BIM tools for drawing review and coordination.
* Previous experience working with UK‑based construction or development companies.
Requirements
* A bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction engineering is a must.
* 5–7 years of relevant UK construction experience.
* Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations and compliance standards.
* Proficiency in MS Project and Microsoft Office Suite.
* Excellent communication, planning, analytical, and coordination skills.
* Valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle for regular site visits.
