An established aerospace engineering organisation based in Wimborne, Dorset is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to support the delivery of advanced aerospace systems used on both fixed and rotary-wing aircraft. The site is recognised globally for its technical excellence in air-to-air refuelling systems, launch systems, and defensive aids technologies, supplying fifth-generation solutions to air forces worldwide. This position is well suited to an experienced engineer who enjoys working across a broad range of engineering disciplines and is either already providing technical leadership or looking to progress into an engineering leadership or management role. Key Responsibilities: Provide technical leadership for small to medium-sized engineering projects. Support Lead Engineers or Engineering Managers on larger programmes, including ownership of defined project work packages. Plan and manage engineering activities, including coordination of internal functions and creation of engineering management plans. Act as a key technical interface with customers, ensuring requirements are fully understood and communicated internally. Plan, lead, and present engineering design and gate reviews, engaging with airworthiness, safety, and other internal stakeholders. Identify, manage, and mitigate technical risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle. Execute all phases of the system lifecycle, including requirements management, system design, development, integration, verification, validation, and qualification. Manage engineering change processes, ensuring design integrity, configuration control, and full traceability of technical decisions. Provide technical support and guidance across all stages of the product lifecycle. Liaise closely with engineering leadership and programme management to ensure appropriate resourcing and capability alignment.Qualifications: Degree-qualified in a relevant engineering discipline. Applicants with an HNC, apprenticeship, or alternative technical qualification supported by substantial experience will also be considered. Minimum of 5 years’ experience in an engineering role within a regulated or complex engineering environment.Skills and Experience: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interface confidently with customers and internal stakeholders. Self-motivated and proactive, with a collaborative approach to problem-solving. Experience working through engineering lifecycles and participating in formal design reviews. Well-developed technical report writing capability. Comfortable presenting technical information to a wide range of audiences and seniority levels. Previous experience providing engineering sign-off would be advantageous but is not essential. Exposure to project planning and scheduling activities would be beneficial. This role involves access to US ITAR-controlled technology, goods, and information.
