This is a position for a qualified counsellor to work flexibly across the Northern Care Alliance, providing a service for Salford residents. They will work within the Specialist Palliative Care team, and work with a selection of clients for assessment and ongoing counselling support to meet the individuals' needs. Clients will include people who have been given a life-limiting diagnosis, their significant others.

The post holder will provide counselling to adults who have been given a life-limiting diagnosis, and their significant others.

The post holder will work therapeutically with clients and their families in hospital or at a health centre.

The post holder will provide clinical supervision to healthcare workers within the palliative care, bereavement, and chaplaincy services as directed by the line manager.

They will manage their own caseloads and supervise more junior staff or students when required.

The post holder will support the learning and development of other Trust members by providing teaching sessions as directed by the line manager.

The post holder will be professionally and legally responsible and accountable for all aspects of their own work and be able to work as part of a team.

Main duties of the job include:

1. Accepting clinical responsibility for a designated caseload of clients and managing this efficiently and effectively regarding clinical priorities and use of time.
2. Undertaking comprehensive specialist assessments of clients, including those with complex presentations.
3. Ensuring a high standard of care for the clients under management.
4. Providing advice, guidance, and support to other members of the healthcare team as required.
5. Advising on alternative services for clients who are not appropriate for the Specialist Palliative Care Counselling Service, and referring clients directly to specialist services when appropriate.
6. When working with adults who are parents/carers of children up to the age of 18, assessing the needs of their children to ensure appropriate services are delivered.
7. Adhering to all relevant British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) Ethical Framework (or equivalent) requirements for Counsellors.
