An exciting opportunity at The Perse has arisen for a Teacher of Biology to start in September 2025. We are looking to appoint a high-achieving scientist, on a one-year fixed-term basis, to join a supportive, energetic, and collegiate department.
Department Overview
Biology is a core subject alongside chemistry and physics. All pupils currently take three separate sciences to GCSE, having completed a preparatory biology course in years 7 and 8. We follow the Edexcel GCSE course in the Middle School, and the department routinely achieves outstanding GCSE results.
Post Details
Biology is a popular A-level choice, with approximately 140 students studying it in the Lower and Upper Sixth. Since September 2022, the department has been teaching the OCR A-level course, which is academically challenging and develops pupils' independent learning and questioning skills. Practical work is integral, with laboratories equipped to the highest standards.
Student Success and Opportunities
Many students gain places at Cambridge and Oxford for Natural Sciences or Biological Sciences, and pursue degrees in Dentistry, Medicine, and Veterinary Science. The Medical Forum and Sixth Form Biology Society provide extension opportunities for students aiming for competitive courses.
School Achievements and Values
Our exam results regularly place The Perse in the top 20 schools nationally, with over 50 pupils receiving Oxbridge offers annually. We value a balanced approach to teaching and learning, blending tradition with innovation, and academic with personal growth. All staff and pupils are expected to demonstrate excellence and contribute broadly to school life.
Well-being and Application Process
We offer a supportive environment that values staff well-being, professional development, and work-life balance. Further details and application instructions are available on our website via the 'Apply' button.
Closing date: 12th May 2025 at 9.00 am. Applications will be considered as received, and we reserve the right to make an appointment before the closing date.
Interviews will be held on Tuesday, 20th May.
Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding
The Perse actively supports equality, diversity, and inclusion. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, requiring all applicants to undergo appropriate child protection screening, including references, DBS check, and eligibility to work in the UK. All roles involve regulated activity, and the role is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974.
Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility. Interviews will assess candidates’ suitability to work with children.
