About the role
Join us in a key safety and compliance position at the Upper Tier COMAH St Fergus Gas Terminal and Aberdeen Compressor Station. You'll provide specialist safety, security and environmental expertise, ensuring our operations meet the highest regulatory standards while helping shape a culture of continual improvement. Acting as a trusted representative of National Gas, you'll work closely with regulators, partners and stakeholders across a complex and high‑hazard environment.
What You'll Be Doing
Lead and advise on safety, security and environmental compliance across St Fergus and SN1, ensuring documentation, systems and performance meet COMAH, ISO14001 and all regulatory expectations.
Coordinate regulatory engagement, including HSE and SEPA inspections, and manage resulting actions.
Oversee key compliance reporting, including regulatory submissions, Process Safety KPIs, environmental aspects, site risk registers, asset health information and site licences.
Carry out Human Factors and Safety Critical Task analyses, identifying improvements to reduce risks associated with high‑hazard and major accident scenarios.
Support development and maintenance of the COMAH Safety Report, contributing to hazard studies, bow‑tie analysis and ALARP assessments.
Champion safety culture and continuous improvement, helping embed strong behaviours, ownership and performance across the St Fergus and SN1 teams.
Support functional safety programmes, including alarm management, DSEAR compliance and occupied building studies.
Act as a key external representative, engaging with regulators, emergency services, local authorities and other site operators to uphold our "trusted operator" status.
Provide safety leadership across both sites, ensuring compliance with COMAH, PSR and wider process safety expectations.
Support new asset construction and commissioning, contributing to business cases, design and technical input where needed.
Lead emergency preparedness, ensuring plans are maintained, tested and effective, and taking on roles such as Incident Controller or Site Main Controller.
Investigate incidents thoroughly, identifying root causes and ensuring effective corrective action.
Help develop and improve policies and procedures, ensuring clear communication and consistent adoption across operational teams.
About You
You'll be a process safety professional with an excellent all-round knowledge and demonstrable experience of working in process safety management in an high-hazard operational facility / environment. You'll have the ability to influence, coach, and guide others which will be matched by your customer-oriented approach and commitment to maintaining high standards in operational environments. You'll have strong leadership and communication skills, capable of fostering a collaborative and safety-focused team culture.
Key Requirements And Experience
Good understanding of safety & environmental legislative requirements, including COMAH and PSR requirements
Good understanding of HSE and SEPA working practices and expectations
Experience working in process safety with demonstrable high safety standards
Knowledge of operation and maintenance of high-pressure gas transmission pipeline systems and above ground installations, including associated plant & equipment (or similar industries)
Strong leadership, influencing, and communication skills
HNC or equivalent, and/or significant relevant experience in engineering or process operational discipline
IOSH Managing Safely certification
Full UK car driving licence
NEBOSH General Certificate - desirable
Incident investigation root cause analysis - desirable
Security Clearance
