The post holder will work alongside the transfusion practitioners as part of the Hospital Transfusion Team to support the Trust in keeping patients safe and ensure that regulations and guidelines are followed.

The work is varied and hence a flexible approach and a willingness to learn would be ideal attributes in a candidate.

At the heart of everything we do are our core values: Include, Respect, and Improve. We encourage you to embrace these values throughout the recruitment process and in your role with us.

Main duties of the job

The Associate Transfusion Practitioner (ATP) will assist the Transfusion Practitioners (TPs) in facilitating safe practice in blood transfusion, preventing blood wastage and auditing blood transfusion processes within the Trust.

The transfusion department must have full traceability of all blood products that come in to the department and the ATP will have responsibility for supporting the laboratory with this task.

The post holder will assist in the delivery of transfusion training and competency assessments and the development of guidelines and policies.

Transfusion incidents need full investigation and documentation including Root Cause Analysis and Corrective and Preventive Actions and the post holder will be trained to support the TPs in these processes and the ongoing reporting externally.
