Main Purpose of Job
The main purpose of this full-time position will be to provide community health nursing services in the Emergency Preparedness (EP) and Communicable Disease (CD) programs to individuals and/or families in the community through the use of the nursing process. Services provided include, but are not limited to:
1. Health promotion;
2. Health maintenance;
3. Health education & management; and
4. Coordination and continuity of care in a holistic approach to the management of the health care of individuals, families & groups in the community.
Emergency Preparedness planning will be conducted and documented in written plans in collaboration with other EP staff. This position will maintain a focus on:
5. Medical needs assessment;
6. Collaboration with partners on medical responses; and
7. Assurance of appropriate supplies & medical standards of care as related to mitigation, response & recovery from all hazards events for the community at large.
The selected applicant must be willing and able to travel to all Worcester County Health Department sites and may be required to work occasional evening and/or weekend hours. This position will also participate in a mandatory on-call rotation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor’s degree in nursing from an accredited college or university.
Experience: None.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute a Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university and one year of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education.
2. Candidates may substitute two years of experience as a Registered Nurse for the required education.
3. Candidates may substitute Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Nursing classification or Nursing or Health Care Specialist specialty codes in the Nursing field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
The desired candidate should possess:
8. Experience with planning a local response to an emergency event
9. Experience using clinical skills to provide direct patient care including immunizations and testing
10. Case Management experience
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
1. Candidates for positions in this classification must possess a current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing, 4140 Patterson Avenue, Baltimore, Maryland 21215.
2. Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator’s license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification will be required to provide the facility with a telephone number at which they can be reached.
