Offer description

Apprentice trained, Mechanical Assembly Technician / Development Engineer is required. The role is to build, assemble and test special purpose automated machines.

Applicants must be apprentice trained in mechanical engineering or tool making and therefore able to machine parts on a lathe. The ideal background for this role is assembly technician, development engineer, R&D Engineer, mechanical fitter, machine tool fitter, toolmaker, CNC machinist or similar engineering discipline.

Applicants must already live in Birmingham. Sponsorship is not possible.

The Role

To assemble and build special purpose machines.

1. Build and assemble machines working to written specifications, CAD drawings, build manual, and supplied kits
2. Review designs with Project Leaders and Designers
3. Manufacture machine supports and guard frames
4. Fabricate and machine items such as brackets or tooling using a lathe
5. Build pneumatic assemblies
6. Run up and commission machines, verify that the machine works correctly.
7. Demonstrate machine to the customer
8. Feedback modifications made during the build and machine commissioning phase.
9. Help to solve mechanical problems

8 hours per day – (07:30 – 16:00) Monday to Thursday

5.5 hours (07:30 – 13:00) Friday

Requirements

10. Apprentice trained mechanical engineer; assembly technician, mechanical fitter, toolmaker, mechanical assembler, fabricator, tooling engineer
11. Likely to have worked for a similar company e.g. packaging machinery, food processing machinery, materials handling, conveyors, special purpose machines, CNC machines building etc..
12. City & Guilds level 3 or HNC/HND level
13. Possess machining skills (lathe, milling machine, grinding machine)
14. Experience to marking up, drilling, tapping, machining, measuring, cutting, and assembling.

Salary

15. £30K – £40K depending on experience
16. Company pension
17. On-site parking
18. 25 days holiday plus statutory days.
19. Overtime may be available as required weekdays and weekends.
