The Role



As an Onboarding & Development Trainer, you'll play a key role in shaping the first steps of an apprentice's career. You'll manage enrolments, deliver inductions, and set learners up for success, ensuring they start their apprenticeship with confidence, clarity, and the foundations they need to thrive.
Throughout the programme, you'll provide on-bus mentoring, coaching learners to develop safe, effective driving practices, build professional skills, and achieve their qualifications. Your ongoing guidance will help apprentices succeed in their careers while ensuring a smooth and positive experience for both learners and employers.

Whilst we can't promise that every day will be the same, your key responsibilities are likely to be:
- Planning, preparing, and supporting learners through the enrolment and induction process, ensuring all documentation and requirements are complete.
- Using learners' initial assessment results to tailor induction content to individual needs.
- Delivering high-quality, engaging, and inclusive induction sessions, primarily face-to-face with some online delivery.
- Providing on-bus mentoring and coaching throughout the programme, supporting drivers in real-world scenarios to develop safe driving practices and excellent customer service skills.
- Liaising with employers to confirm learner readiness, attendance and compliance with organisational standards
- Completing administration tasks related to enrolment, mentoring, and coaching, maintaining accurate records and compliance.
- Monitoring learner progress and flagging additional support needs to the Transport Skills Trainer or wider team.
- Keeping quality at the heart of everything you do across all training and mentoring activities
- Building positive relationships with learners and employers to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
- Staying up to date with sector developments, training techniques, and assessment requirements.

Where will I be based?


This is a depot-based role, with some travel required for team meetings and company events. There will be admin days where you can work from home. This will be discussed with you further in your interview.

About You

- Has strong knowledge of bus driving standards and customer service excellence.
- Is passionate about supporting learners at the start of their careers and committed to providing high quality, personalised mentoring.
- Can manage a varied workload effectively and stay organised, particularly during enrolments and inductions.
- Is confident coaching learners on the bus and in workplace settings.
- Communicates clearly and builds positive relationships with learners, employers and colleagues.
- Holds relevant industry qualifications and ideally a teaching or assessing qualification (or is willing to work towards one).
- Full UK Driving Licence and own mode of transport
