About the Opportunity
The Plastic Pipefitter is responsible for the installation, assembly, maintenance, and repair of plastic piping systems used for water, drainage, heating, ventilation, and industrial applications. The role requires accurate reading of technical drawings, safe use of tools and equipment, and adherence to health, safety, and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
* Install, assemble, and secure plastic pipe systems (e.g. PVC, HDPE, ABS, PP).
* Cut, shape, fuse, weld, solvent-cement, or mechanically join plastic pipes and fittings.
* Read and follow technical drawings, schematics, and specifications.
* Measure, mark, and prepare pipe runs with high accuracy.
* Install supports, brackets, and hangers to ensure correct pipe alignment.
* Test completed pipework for leaks, pressure, and functionality.
* Carry out maintenance, fault finding, and repairs on existing systems.
* Ensure all work complies with relevant industry standards, regulations, and site procedures.
* Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean and safe condition.
* Work collaboratively with other trades, supervisors, and site managers.
* Always follow health and safety policies, including PPE requirements.
Skills and Competencies
* Proven experience working with plastic piping systems.
* Knowledge of pipe fusion, solvent welding, and mechanical jointing methods.
* Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications.
* Strong practical skills and attention to detail.
* Good problem-solving and fault-finding ability.
* Understanding of health and safety requirements on construction or industrial sites.
* Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
* Good communication and time-management skills.
Qualifications and Experience
* NVQ / SVQ Level 2 or 3 in Pipefitting, Plumbing, or a related discipline (preferred).
* Relevant plastic welding or fusion certifications (advantageous).
* Site safety certification (e.g. CCNSG Safety Passport, CSCS or equivalent).
* Previous experience in construction, utilities, industrial, or manufacturing environments.
Working Conditions
* May involve working indoors or outdoors, sometimes in confined spaces.
* Manual handling, standing, kneeling, and working at height may be required.
* Travel to different sites may be necessary depending on the project.
