Assistant Merchandiser What is the role The primary function of the Assistant Merchandiser is to aid the Merchandiser in identifying opportunities and risks through commercial decisions in order to maximise profit. This is done through effective stock management. Working closely with the Buying department, the core areas of responsibility are as follows; • Trading and Commercial Awareness • Stock and Critical Path Management • Profit Management • Range Planning • Relationship with Others What you will do Trading & Commercial Awareness • Assists with weekly analysis of the department performance for Monday Trade • Liaise with the trading team to update regarding imminent deliveries, key best sellers or re-stock dates • Consistent awareness of best and worst sellers for the department and company • Conducts regular store visits to obtain direct feedback from staff and customers • Has an understanding of the plus size market and knowledge of the high street Stock & Order Management • Works closely with the Buying Assistant and Supply Base to monitor the Critical Path, attends weekly Critical Path meetings to identify stock delays, keeping the team informed of potential movements so that appropriate action can be taken • Undertakes regular sizing analysis and uses this data to create size ratio’s for purchase orders, assisting the Buying Assistant with order raising where necessary • Assist with Flow Line monitoring, ensuring the document is accurately updated each week with a view to forecast sales and suggest proposed intake • Accurately maintains line details, range plans and relevant databases Profit Management • Understands key calculations, such as, Margin, % Growth, Cover • Actions agreed markdowns on the system and can analysis the effectiveness of them Range Planning • Produces historical analysis and lessons learnt for strategy/sign off packs • Participate in team range building, demonstrating an understanding of the key elements within a range Relationships with Others • Acts as a mentor for peers • Is passionate and positive and helps create a stimulating and enjoyable work environment • Can communicate effectively across all levels and via all channels • Builds and maintains effective working relationships with key partners across the business, with particular emphasis on the Buying, Retail, Logistics and Finance teams • Creates and maintains productive relationships with key product suppliers What you will bring • Fluent in written and spoken English • Specific experience in fashion retail merchandising preferably within multi-brand environment • Analytical skills and computer skills. • Knowledge and understanding of High Street fashion • Relevant degree or equivalent • Excel Competent • A strong commercial outlook • Good judgement and decision making skills • Ability to work to tight deadlines • Highly motivated and a desire to be the best • Confidence in suggesting calculated risks • Proven record of good attendance and flexibility • Passionate about product, strong market and brand awareness • Ability to work hard and smart • Ability to adapt to frequent change and a high pressure environment • Outstanding loyalty and commitment to the business
