We are seeking a Quantum Diamond Materials Engineer to develop our diamond materials expertise and fabrication techniques for our quantum devices.
Mission
As a Quantum Diamond Materials Engineer, you will play a key role in our R&D program by developing novel CVD processes for fabricating diamond quantum microprocessors and sensing modules. The role is based in Clayton / Notting Hill, Melbourne, with opportunities to travel or relocate to Japan. You will collaborate with diamond scientists and project management to solve technical challenges and advance research projects, working across research institutes in Melbourne. This position offers the chance to conduct world-class research within a commercially driven industry environment.
Job Summary
We welcome candidates at various career stages, from recent PhDs to senior postdocs and industry professionals. The role and remuneration will be tailored accordingly:
* Develop new diamond CVD recipes
* Plan and perform diamond materials characterization
* Coordinate with external R&D partners and suppliers
* Work with the program manager to plan and track projects, manage daily activities, and support administrative tasks
* Contribute to building the company's CVD knowledge database
About You
* PhD in Physics, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field
* Strong background in diamond CVD or related materials growth, with extensive hands-on experience in CVD processes, plasma, and vacuum technology
* Knowledge of materials characterization techniques (e.g., Raman spectroscopy, AFM, XRD, XPS) and data analysis
* Experience working in project environments, with project management or team leadership skills preferred
* Hands-on laboratory work experience and safety-consciousness
* Excellent communication, independent learning, and critical thinking skills
* Willingness to travel within Melbourne research sites
* Interest in emerging technologies and startups
* Knowledge of quantum technologies is advantageous
