Exhall Grange is a 4-19 school which provides a nurturing environment and meets the needs of children and young people with: • Social, Communication and Interaction difficulties including Autism • Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs • Physical difficulties • Sensory impairment • Complex medical needs Many of our children and young people are physically or emotionally extremely vulnerable or have life limiting conditions. Some of our pupils are highly anxious and require our calm, predictable and nurturing environment in order to access school. We are committed to ensuring all our pupils reach their full potential and encourage all of our pupils and staff to “Be Your Best Self” which encapsulates our core purpose. All pupils follow the National Curriculum at a level appropriate to their ability and needs. We are destination driven and focus on developing the skills our pupils need for independence, employment and life. We encourage our pupils to develop the qualities of our school values: Respect, Resilience, Confidence, Motivation, Aspiration and Integrity. This is as important to us as the academic and vocational curriculum. We are seeking to appoint an experienced Level 3 Teaching Assistant to work with our visually impaired pupils across our school community. This means that you could be working with any age group within the school from Early Years Foundation Stage to Post 16. The V.I department currently consists of a qualified teacher of the visually impaired, an advanced TA practitioner, two specialist level 3 teaching assistants and two habilitation officers. Due to the increase in pupils with a visual impairment we are seeking to grow the team. The role will involve providing interventions both within class and outside of the classroom in a wide range of areas from the V.I curriculum framework. The successful candidate will be able to fulfil the essential criteria for this position which include the following. A full list can be found in the Job Description:- • Hold a recognised and relevant qualification a NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) • Have a minimum GCSE (or equivalent) in English and Maths at Grades A-C or Grade 4-9 • Have an understanding of Special Educational Needs • Have considerable experience of working to support pupils learning • Have Manual Handling training or be willing to undertake immediate training • Understand and be able to work with Care Plans • Have a knowledge of specialist equipment, its uses and operation and the ability to demonstrate to other e.g. braillers, embossers • IT skills sufficient to use computerised technologies to provide VI resources You will have the opportunity to work as part of an enthusiastic and VI Department within this unique Specialist Provision. You will become a valued member of an encouraging and friendly staff group. The salary range for this position is £ 30,060 - £ 32,654 full time equivalent which equates to £ 22,711 - £ 23,696 per annum actual salary for 32.5 hours per week working term time plus 5 training days.
